The mobile handsets without the IMEI are set to lose connectivity by the end of the day today.
The 15-digit International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number helps security agencies trace calls made from and received on handsets. As per industry estimates, over 25 mn handsets are in circulation without IMEI numbers.
Intelligence Bureau Asks Indian Government to Block Internet Telephony Services

The Intelligence Bureau of India has asked the communication ministry to block all internet telephony (VoIP) services to and from India until the Department of Telecom (DoT) puts in place a mechanism to track such calls.
The calls passing through the VoIP and IP route contains inadequate parameters which makes it impossible to trace the actual callers.
India Based Mobile Numbers To Begin With 8 Now

Department of Telecom has resorted to allot mobile numbers starting with the number 8. This is mainly due to booming mobile market in India because of which mobile operators are running out of numbers starting with 9.
